Janeretta Farris of Albuquerque,

New Mexico passed away on March 14, 2022. She was 86 years old.

She was born on June 8, 1935 in Murphysboro, Illinois, where she was raised and attended high school, earning the honors of both homecoming queen and valedictorian of her class. She moved to St. Louis, Mis souri to attend the Lutheran Hospital school of nursing and graduated with honors. She worked as a surgical nurse there before moving to Albuquerque in 1965. Early in her life there she raised her children before returning to work, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, working in the office as a clinical nurse and in the operating room as a highly skilled first surgical assistant. Medicine was one of her great loves.

She lived the rest of her life in Albuquerque, enjoying her time with her family. She loved travel (especially to Hawaii) and football (definitely her beloved Dallas Cowboys). More than anything, however, she loved awakening early in the morning before work, making a cup of coffee, and walking her dogs through the Four Hills neighborhood where she lived to open land where she could see the Albuquerque cityscape stretch out below her, and enjoy the beginning of a new day.

She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Lorena Maloney of Murphysboro, her brother Robert “Bobby” Maloney of Murphysboro, and her husband Lee Farris of Albuquerque. She is survived by her sister Kate Borgsmiller of Carbondale, Illinois, her children Kelly Gage (Allison) of St. Louis, Kimberly Castellanos (Cesar) of Long Beach, California, Keith Gage of Albuquerque, her grandchildren Kristine, Kelsey, Carter, Ian, Sydney and Christopher, and her great grandchildren Henry, August, and Colin. She was much loved.

There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 2 PMPiru Activity Center (within the Four Hills Mobile Home Park) 12300 Piru Blvd. SE, Albuquerque. 87123
