Carl Glenn Guist, 75, of Placitas, NM, passed away at home surrounded by his family on the evening of April 20, 2022.

Carl was born on September 5, 1946 in Kalamazoo, MI. At the age of twelve, he moved with his family to Albuquerque, NM. He graduated from Sandia High School in 1964 and the University of New Mexico in 1968 with a major in accounting. Carl was promptly drafted (or as Carl liked to say, “invited”) into the U .S. Army where he served as an Army Intelligence Agent in Albuquerque until his honorable discharge in 1971. After marrying his wife, Nancy, in 1971, the two of them spent time in Tucson and San Diego before moving back to Albuquerque where he began working for KPMG. His financial career highlights included positions with New Mexico Financial Corporation and also United New Mexico Financial Corporation where he became CFO of First United Bank Group in 1987. Carl ended his successful career in corporate finance as CFO of Health Care H orizons/Cimarron HMO from which he retired in 2006.

Carl’s greatest joys in life were his three children and six grandchildren. His passions included golf, reading and travel including exploratory car trips with Nancy. He designed his and Nancy’s retirement home in Placitas, which was a culmination of his love for designing. He never met a piece of land for which he wasn’t mentally creating a house! We shall miss his quick wit, his curiosity about the world around him and his steadfast love and support.

Carl is survived by his wife, Nancy, with whom he celebrated fifty wonderful years of marriage in 2021, his three children, Jonathan Guist, Derek Guist and Kristina Werenko and six grandchildren as well as sister, Gayle Greenman, and brother, Gary Guist. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer.
