Carl A. Thornton

Mr. Carl A. Thornton passed away peacefully on January 24th, 2023, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, at the age of 84 years old. Carl is survived by his daughter Jennie Lois Thornton of Corrales, New Mexico, his son Carl Adam Thornton of Corrales, NM, and by his daughter in law Tamela Thornton of Corrales, NM, grandchildren, Josie Lois Dean, Brody Thornton Dean, Carson Adam Thornton, Chase Addison Thornton, Caroline Laura Joy Thornton. Carl is preceded in death by his wife Lois Jerilyn Thornton, his brother Earl Thornton, and by his brother Glen Thornton. Carl was born on Thursday, February 3rd, 1938, in Borger, Texas, to Jennie Sarah (Burnette) and James Elias “J.E.” Thornton. He attended Carrizozo High School and graduated with his Diploma in 1958. Carl then went on to attend the University of New Mexico to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Computer Science, he graduated with his degree in 1962. Later in 1999 Carl earned his Masters Degree in Organizational Management. Carl married Ms. Lois Jerilyn Burns on Sunday, June 14th, 1964, in Carrizozo, New Mexico. Northrup TRW in California for twelve years. He then worked at the Bank of Santa Fe for two years. Afterwards Carl was employed at Los Alamos National Laboratory for twenty-four years. He enjoyed community service, mentoring, coaching, playing golf, hunting, wine tasting and picnics with his family. Carl was a past President of the Rotary Club, a past Deputy Chief of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol, and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity – Delta Zeta Chapter. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, February 10th, 2023, at Daniels Family Funeral Services – Sara Chapel, located at 4310 Sara Rd. SE, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, 87124, beginning at 10:00AM, with the inurnment of Carl and Lois Thornton to follow directly after at Vista Verde Memorial Park. “Live life in moderation, with glorious exceptions!”
