Effie Marmon,

83, of Laguna/ Isleta Pueblo, passed away at home with loving family on October 19, 2022. She attended Albuquerqu­e schools, also the University of Oklahoma where she studied business and general studies.

Effie operated private clubs for nearly 35 years on Albuquerqu­e’s west side beginning in 1979. She was also the director of the All Indian Pueblo Council Scholarshi­p Program in the early seventies which paved the way for young Native Americans to attend college.

In ’89, with the support of Pueblo leaders and Public School officials, she was the key person in helping to name an elementary school after her grandmothe­r, Susie Rayos Marmon. She also worked alongside her father to plot an official baseball field for adult and little league teams from the nearby community.

She stated in an ’86 news article that she was glad the field was buil t...there weren’t enough fields in town so all teams were welcome, teams from Westgate, Native American women’s softball teams, little league teams-whoever was interested and needed a field to play. Effie will be remembered as a Native American entreprene­ur through her tireless work ethic over the years...

She is survived by her sisters, Marie, Harriet, and Cathy Marmon; sister-inlaw, Erika Marmon; and many great-nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Lupe Marmon; and brother, Woodford Marmon.

Services were held on, Tuesday October 25, 2022 at 11:00a.m. at Rio Grande Presbyteri­an Church - 600 Coors Blvd NW Albuquerqu­e NM 87105.
