7 Duke City-area bars and restaurants that welcome dogs
Everyone knows dogs are man’s best friend (easy, cat people, it’s just a saying). But, when a dog owner goes out for a meal, a drink or just around town, there are some places that — hold on to your Milk-Bones! — won’t let their furry companion join in on the fun.
Luckily, there are plenty of spots in Albuquerque that know just how important outings with your pooch are. So, brush up on your pup’s underthe-table manners; we’ve made a list of some of the dog-friendly businesses the city has to offer.
SATELLITE COFFEE, FLYING STAR CAFE:
Satellite Coffee is more than just a coffee spot — it’s a great place to take your dog, big or small, to keep you company while you study for a test, practice your drawing, or just relax with some tea or coffee on their outdoor “Petio.”
With five locations in the city, from the University area to the northern part of the West Side, pet owners across the city have easy access to this poochfriendly establishment.
The café also has a stash of dog biscuits so your pet doesn’t have to be jealous of that scone or muffin you’re munching on.
If you like the vibe of Satellite, but need a bit more space outside, or if you’re craving a full meal instead, sister company Flying Star Café has the answer.
Large open outdoors seating allows for plenty of room for your dog to sniff around (while still leashed) and a full menu, and the same beverages and pastries offered at Satellite (same owners) mean you can spend breakfast, lunch or dinner with your canine pal. The restaurant also won the Albuquerque Magazine Best in the City 2022 Best Pet-Friendly Patio award last year.
Flying Star also has dog biscuits and water available to pet owners.
And, if you visit the Alameda Boulevard Satellite location or the nearby Flying Star on Corrales Road, you’re just a short walk from plenty of bosque trails that are sure to entertain your pup.
TRACTOR BREWING CO.:
Maybe you’re craving a brewery atmosphere instead. Maybe your dog is, too. If at least one of you are, Tractor Brewing Co. is a good bet.
Tractor was named one of the “Top 10 Dog Friendly Breweries in the Country” according to Pet Insider, with the company not only allowing dogs onto their patio, but also into their taproom, as well.
The brewery also partners with the Animal Humane Society of New Mexico to host training sessions, called “Perfect
Pub Pets,” at its Nob Hill location for dogs who need a bit of practice with a restaurant setting. According to Animal Humane’s website, an animal trainer will meet your pup and assess how ready he/ she is for a restaurant environment, and share tips to help improve their behavior if they need it.
BOXING BEAR BREWING CO.:
Another dog-friendly brewery in the city is Boxing Bear Brewing Co. With several locations across the metro area — including a location near Jefferson and Alameda, one in West Downtown, and one off Tramway and Candelaria — this local pub chain allows you to take your pup with you while you kick back with a cold one.
If that’s not enough, Boxing Bear is also in the top five of the Albuquerque Magazine Best in the City 2022 picks for best pet-friendly patio, among the numerous other Best in the City awards they won or appeared in the top five last year.
EX NOVO BREWING CO.:
If you’re looking for a spot outside the city to take your pup, consider Ex Novo Brewing Co., nestled in the heart of Corrales just north of Albuquerque.
The taproom has both indoor seating and an patio, as well as a large outdoor area on the opposite side of their parking lot.
The location is also close to plenty of walking paths that cross through the village and the bosque is minutes away by car, in case you or your dog wants to run off some of those beer carbs.
TIN CAN ALLEY, GREEN JEANS FARMERY:
If you’re looking for the most variety possible for you and your canine companion, you can visit either Tin Can Alley on Alameda near San Pedro or Green Jeans Farmery near Interstate 40 and Carlisle. Both are industrial-style food courts that have plenty of different cuisines and beers to choose from. According to their websites, dogs are allowed on both their patios.
Both locations also feature substantial outdoor seating, so you and your dog can find a seat in the fresh air to eat and enjoy each other’s company.
