What you need to know about New Mexico:

The Lobos showed a different style in Thursday’s 72-64 WNIT win over Northern Arizona, one necessitated by twins LaTascya and LaTora Duff choosing to opt out of the postseason tournament. UNM attempted just 13 3-pointers, well below its average, and attacked the basket more often. UNM outrebounded NAU (43-33) but will be hard pressed to duplicate those numbers against towering Washington. Still, the Lobos will need to hold their own on the boards if they hope to force the deliberate Huskies into a faster pace. The Lobos no longer have a deep arsenal of effective 3-point shooters but they’ll likely need to hit some to offset Washington’s size. Cumber, Reus and Bates are UNM’s best bets for keeping the defense honest. Washington runs an efficient offense but has been prone to turnovers at times. The Lobos may look to apply pressure in dead ball situations in hopes of speeding up the Huskies and creating transition opportunities.

What you need to know about Washington:

The Huskies present a different type of challenge than New Mexico has faced this season. They are exceptionally tall, share the ball well and dominate the boards (+7.1 rebounds per game). They ranked last in the Pac-12 in scoring offense (61.6 points per game), fourth in scoring defense (59.3 ppg) and were second only to Stanford in rebound margin. Washington’s deliberate style has landed them in a number of low-scoring games, but the Huskies are quite capable of getting on a roll. They scored just 19 points in the first half of Thursday’s WNIT opener against San Francisco but put up 42 in the second and rolled to a 61-46 win. Daniels, a transfer from Cal, leads UW in most statistical categories and is particularly good on the offensive boards. Washington does not shoot many 3-pointers and converts a Pac-12worst 28.1%. But with three 6-foot-4 players in its rotation, UW is often content to pound the ball inside and control the paint.
