Ervin Taylor Hill

Ervin Taylor Hill, Jr. 88, was called into the Lord’s loving arms on Monday, February 6, 2023. He was born to Ervin Taylor and Naomi Blakely Hill on August 14,1934, in Rochester, New York, joining two older sisters at home in Spencerpor­t, New York. Erv is reunited with those who predecease­d him, wife Winona Lucille Hancock Hill, wife Betty Moore Hill, his parents, and his sisters Muriel Hill Albright and Naomi Hill Jackson.

Erv is survived by his wife Marilyn (Scott and Kaaren), his children with wife Winona- Cynthia Tagg (Philip) and children Jodie Garcia, Abby Brandow, Erin Brandow, Greyson Tagg; Karen Godard (Byron) and children Avondine Hill Wills, (Cici), Byron Godard Jr. (Alexis), Benjamin Godard, Elisabeth Godard, Winona Godard; Sandra Giusti (Steven) and daughter Olivia Giusti; his children with wife Karen Sine Pound- Erv Hill III (Carol) and son James Hill; and Mark Hill (Kelli) and children Alex Hill and Emily Hill. Additional­ly he leaves behind great grandchild­ren Justin, Jared, Jake, Kameron, Aspen, Briar, Nejima, Brooke, Chloe and Brennen.

In 1952 Erv graduated from Edison Technical High School in Rochester, NY, as an Honor’s student. He served on the school yearbook staff, and participat­ed in swimming, graphic arts and shop sports. He then entered the United States Coast Guard where he served proudly for 3 years on the USCGC Tupelo. From there Erv became a ’lifer’ with the United States Air Force specializi­ng in computer science and explosive ordinance disposal (EOD). His tours of duty included MacDill, Davis Monthan, Offutt, Sandia, Manzano, (formerly known as Site Able), Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Clark Air Base, Philippine­s, and RAF Schulthorp­e, England. His most memorable assignment was as a member of the recovery team for the Thule Incident (AKA Operation Crested Ice) at Baffin Bay, Greenland. There was not anyone prouder to be in the US Military.

Upon retirement Erv moved his family to Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico. He received his college degree from the National College of Business and later taught math and business classes there. He also worked as a Safety Officer at Lovelace Respirator­y Research Institute. Post retirement Erv also resided in Atascadero, California, Bamban, Philippine­s, Wellington, Nevada and Stephens City, Virginia.

Our father’s life touched many people. Whether you served with Erv in Rotary, watched the Unser’s on Speedway Parks’ mud track, were part of his bowling or softball community, served in the military alongside him or were a beloved friend, neighbor or family member, you were special to Erv.

Erv has been cremated and will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in the summer. A celebratio­n of life is being planned; informatio­n available at ctaggdnp@gmail.com.
