Thomas Francis Growney
Thomas Francis Growney passed away in Albuquerque on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 after a brief illness. Tom was born in Conception, MO on November 28, 1928. He was the second oldest in a family of seven children. Growing up in the depression era made for a difficult childhood but instilled in Tom a determination and drive that carried him through the rest of his life.
Tom served in the First Calvary of the US Army at the end of World War II and was deployed to Japan. Upon completion of his service, he attended Rockhurst University where he graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. His early career included 2 years with General Motors and 11 years with John Deere. In 1966, he founded Tom Growney Equipment, Inc., in Albuquerque, which distributed and serviced John Deere construction equipment throughout New Mexico and west Texas. After handing the reins of the company over to his sons, Tom D. and Dan in 1993, he pursued a passion for ranching in Texas. He was a dog lover and easily won the affections of his granddogs, Georgia, Deacon, Hogan and Lucy. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and rarely missed a game.
Tom was predeceased by his wife, Nancy and his son, Dan. He is survived by his son, Thomas D. Growney, daughter-in-law, Leigh and two grandchildren, Ryan and Caroline. The family wishes to thank Dr. William Berlin and Tom’s caretaker, Natalie Quintana for the excellent and compassionate care they provided Tom.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Tom’s memory to Conception Abbey, 37174 State Highway VV, Conception, MO 64433.
