Our beloved Vicente De La
Cruz was called home to be with
Our Lord on Sunday April 23, 2023. This loss leaves an enormous void in the lives of all who knew him and loved him. We will always be grateful for our time with him but will miss him forever.
Vicente was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on March 29, 1940. He graduated from McCurdy High School in Santa Cruz, New Mexico in 1959 where he excelled in basketball and football (Go Bobcats!). He joined the Army in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended the University of New Mexico where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1972. He began working for the City of Albuquerque and ultimately retired as the Administrative and Fiscal Manager for the City’s Transit Department. Vicente led a very full and happy life. He loved his family, traveling, bowling, casinos, and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a member and officer of the American Legion Post 13 for many years. Vicente was a volunteer driver for Catholic Charities. He also served as a homebound eucharistic minister for many years. He was devoted to our Lord and loved his Holy Ghost Parish family very much.
Vicente was preceded in death by his parents, Vicente and Maria De La Cruz; grandson, Charles Meierer; brother, Richard De La Cruz; son, Vincent De La Cruz; and stepson, Michael Gallegos.
He is survived by his wife, Julia; his children, Diane Castillo (Robert), Christine Walker (Richard), Dennis De La Cruz (Felisha), and stepdaughter, Julie Velazquez (Robert). He is also survived by his sisters, Geniva Lovato and Lupe Sandoval; brother, George De La Cruz; sisters-in-law, Martha De La Cruz and Catherine Sanchez; and brother-in-law, Reuben Sanchez. Vicente also leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many special friends.
