Richard Geha
Richard "Dick" Geha, age 90, son of George and Emaline Geha, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 31, 2023. Born in Trinidad, Colorado, he and his parents moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico when he was in the second grade. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1951 where he lettered in three varsity sports and also boxed.
Following high school, Dick served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and was stationed at one point in Ankara, Turkey. Upon his return, he worked briefly at his parents’ corner grocery store where he met Linda, the love of his life. Upon marrying, Dick attended and graduated from UNM with a degree in Journalism, working in the Advertising and Public Relations business for several years. He was also Vice President at First National Bank, and owner of a Public Relations/ Advertising agency. He received a New Mexico real estate license, sold real estate for over 20 years and became a broker. In March, 1992 while on a break across the street from Arroyo Del Oso Golf Course he witnessed some golfers walking up a fairway and decided at that moment to take up golf. He became an avid golfer, soon retired from real estate, went to work for Bullseye Golf Center and continued playing golf every weekday. On April 30, 2011 at 78 years old, he shot a 78 at Los Altos where he became a member of the Board of Directors and for several years produced their monthly newsletter. He enjoyed many years of fishing in the Jemez Mountains near the family’s cabin and on the San Juan River.
Above all, he had a huge heart, a quick wit, and a twinkle in his eye, and always had a strong hug or handshake for his family and friends, to whom he was loving, caring and devoted.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Linda Bussey Geha; daughter, Susan George; son, Thomas Geha; daughter, Catherine Eckert; son, James Geha; sons-in-law, Joseph Eckert and Paul Tashjian; grandchildren, Richard and Amy Eckert, Rhone Geha, Juan and Catalina Tashjian and Ema Geha. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ann Corn; and nephew, Robby Dunn.
The family wishes to thank the members of Presbyterian Hospice who helped with his care at the end of his life. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
