Politicians are forcing EVs on us without a realistic plan

- BY RON THOMPSON

My parents used to say, if someone talks fast or something is implemented quickly, there is a hidden disaster coming.

We are being forced into a disaster. EVs are the disaster. Not only are the manufacturers having issues, the infrastructure is not ready to support all-electric everything. There are facts being kept away from us under the guise of progress.

The EVs come with their own set of issues; the range is 350 miles to a charge, maybe. And it still takes from 1.5 to 8 hours to recharge. You drain the battery and someone has to pick up your vehicle. Who knows how long you’ll wait.

Another electric car issue is they are known to burst into flames, at any time, in your garage, driving down the road sometime, bang. You’re on fire. Due to the type of fire, it may not be put out for days.

If there is trouble, there are very few repair facilities, and they are not cheap. Batteries are the single-most expensive part on the car. They can cost between $3,500 to $10,000. …

Cold and hot weather brings another set of problems. It wouldn’t be surprising to see or hear of generators carried for long trips. …

As of today, the current infrastructure can’t handle it. There needs to be a massive renovation of the current system, and that takes time. How long, for a safe, reliable system from now would be no less than 20 years. Modernization or updates need time, plans, resources, manpower, security, etc., before the first wire is strung.

We are moving too fast. Politicians are playing a pressure role and with no plan or reality of a plan to get it done. Additionally, there are limited charging stations now. New ones just can’t appear overnight. With the closure of fossil fuel power plants what will pick up the slack? So far, wind and solar have not met the expected need. … In Europe, some of the countries are restarting their coal-powered plants to keep up with the demand due to the increase in demand for all-electric items. …

There are a lot of questions not answered in this rush to get off fossil fuel and go total electric vehicles. The best vehicle is a hybrid. A self-charging hybrid. The emphasis should be on how efficiently can we transition, not how fast we can implement things …
