LSU rallies from 16 down to stun No. 11 South Carolina

Kansas tops Oklahoma, Kentucky beats Auburn in ranked-team battles

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Jordan Wright had 14 points including two free throws with five seconds left as LSU erased a 16-point second half deficit to beat No. 11 South Carolina 64-63 on Saturday.

The Tigers (13-12, 5-7 Southeaste­rn Conference) trailed 41-25 after Zachary Davis’ 3 pointer with 16:58 to play. That’s when LSU found its offensive flow.

South Carolina (21-5, 9-4) had a final chance, but Jacobi Wright’s 3-pointer from the left corner bounced off the rim.

Tyrell Ward led the Tigers with 16 points. Point guard Trae Hannibal, who played two seasons at South Carolina, had a game-high 12 rebounds.

B.J. Mack had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead South Carolina, which has lost two in a row for the first time this season.

No. 3 HOUSTON 82, TEXAS 61: In Houston, L.J. Cryer scored a season-high 26 points, Jamal Shead had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Houston beat Texas for the Cougars’ third straight win.

Cryer and Shead combined to score 23 first half points on 8-of15 shooting as Houston (22-3, 9-3 Big 12) built a 40-27 halftime lead.

Dylan Disu had 16 points and seven rebounds and Chendall Weaver added 11 points for Texas (16-9, 5-7).

Houston, which has won 19 straight home games, remains tied atop the Big 12 with No. 10 Iowa State with six regular season games remaining. The Cougars and Cyclones play on Monday night.

No. 6 KANSAS 67, No. 25 OKLAHOMA 57:

In Norman, Okla., Hunter Dickinson had 20 points and 16 rebounds, and Kansas rallied to beat Oklahoma.

Johnny Furphy had 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Jayhawks (20-6, 8-5 Big 12). Kevin McCullar, the leading scorer in the Big 12, returned after missing two games with a knee injury, including a 79-50 loss to Texas Tech. He finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Jalon Moore had 17 points and Javian McCollum added 15 for the Sooners (18-8, 6-7).

Kansas trailed for much of the game but took a 49-46 lead on a 3-pointer by McCullar with about nine minutes remaining.

No. 7 NORTH CAROLINA 96, VIRGINIA TECH 81:

In Chapel Hill, N.C., Armando Bacot had 25 points and 12 rebounds and North Carolina led most of the way in a victory against Virginia Tech.

RJ Davis added 20 points, Cormac Ryan scored 16 and Harrison Ingram had 12 points and 17 rebounds for the Tar Heels (20-6, 12-3 Atlantic Coast Conference).

MJ Collins had 18 points and reserve Mylyjael Poteat scored 15 to lead Virginia Tech (14-11, 6-8), which lost for the fourth time in five games. Tyler Nickel had 14 points against his former team and Lynn Kidd and Hunter Cattoor added 11 points apiece.

No. 8 TENNESSEE 88, VANDERBILT 53:

In Knoxville, Tenn., Dalton Knecht and Zakai Zeigler scored 14 points apiece to lead Tennessee to a rout over Vanderbilt.

Josiah-Jordan James had 13 points, Santiago Vescovi scored 12 and Jonas Aidoo added 11 points and eight rebounds as the Volunteers (19-6, 9-3 Southeaste­rn Conference) beat the Commodores (7-18, 2-10) for the 13th time in their last 14 meetings.

Ven-Allen Lubin scored 10 points to pace Vanderbilt.

No. 9 DUKE 76, FLORIDA STATE 67:

In Tallahasse­e, Fla., Jared McCain set a Duke freshman record with eight 3-pointers and matched a school freshman mark with 35 points as the Blue Devils beat Florida State.

McCain hit seven 3-pointers in the first half and shot 60% overall (12 for 20), including 8 for 11 from long distance in his seventh game scoring 20 or more points. His point total tied Zion Williamson’s 35-point performanc­e against Syracuse in 2019.

Jeremy Roach scored 15 points as Duke (20-5, 11-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) won its fourth straight game.

Jamir Watkins scored 15 points, his 11th straight game in double figures for Florida State (13-12, 7-7).

No. 10 IOWA STATE 82, TEXAS TECH 74:

In Ames, Iowa, Keshon Gilbert had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead Iowa State past Texas Tech .

Curtis Jones contribute­d 12 points for Iowa State (20-5, 9-3 Big 12), which has won all 15 of its home games this season. Tamin Lipsey and Milan Momcilovic each added 10 points.

Joe Toussaint led the Red Raiders (18-7, 7-5) with 16 points.

Iowa State took control early. Robert Jones scored eight straight points for the Cyclones as they jumped to an 18-10 lead. Jones added a 3-pointer to make it 24-10.

No. 12 BAYLOR 94, WEST VIRGINIA 81:

In Morgantown, W. Va., freshman Ja’Kobe Walter scored 23 points to lead six Baylor players in double figures and the Bears beat West Virginia.

Jayden Nunn added 20 points, RayJ Dennis had 18 points and eight assist and Yves Missi scored 13 for Baylor (19-6, 8-4 Big 12), which has won five of its last six.

Nunn finished with five 3-pointers and Walter made four.

RaeQuan Battle scored 25 points and Jesse Edwards had 21 points and nine rebounds for West Virginia (8-17, 3-9).

No. 22 KENTUCKY 70, No. 13 AUBURN 59: In Auburn, Ala.,

Antonio Reeves scored 22 points and Kentucky led throughout to beat cold-shooting Auburn 70-59, ending the Tigers’ 16-game home winning streak.

The Wildcats (18-7, 8-4 Southeaste­rn Conference) held Auburn to 30.9% shooting.

Johni Broome and Chad Baker-Mazara scored 14 each for Auburn.

Adou Thiero, who started with Tre Mitchell out with a left shoulder injury, had 14 points and eight rebounds for Kentucky.

The Tigers (20-6, 9-4), who had been second in the conference behind No. 15 Alabama, lost their second-leading scorer, Jaylin Williams, to an apparent right knee injury midway through the second half.

No. 14 ILLINOIS 85, MARYLAND 80:

In College Park, Md., Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 27 points and Illinois beat Maryland to earn its first road victory against the Terrapins since 2011.

Jahmir Young had 28 points to lead Maryland, which was 10-3 against the Illini since entering the Big Ten in 2014-15.

Marcus Domask had 19 points for the Illini (19-6, 10-4 Big Ten), putting him over 2,000 points for his career, including four seasons at Southern Illinois.

Maryland (14-12, 6-9) wore throwback 1970s-style uniforms to honor former coach Lefty Driesell, who died Saturday at 92.

No. 15 ALABAMA 100, TEXAS A&M 75:

In Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mark Sears had 23 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals and hot-shooting Alabama beat Texas A&M.

Rylan Griffen scored 17, Latrell Wrightsell Jr. had 16 and Aaron Estrada and Sam Walters added 11 each for Alabama (18-7, 9-2 SEC). Walters led the Crimson Tide with eight rebounds.

Sears made four of his seven 3-point shots and eight of his 14 shots from the floor, leading an Alabama offense that was overwhelmi­ng.

Tyrece Radford led Texas A&M (15-10, 6-6 SEC) with 22 points and four rebounds, but he also accounted for five of the Aggies’ 15 turnovers. Solomon Washington had 14 points.

No. 16 DAYTON 78, FORDHAM 70:

In Dayton, Ohio, DaRon Holmes II got his eighth double-double of the season with 29 points and 10 rebounds to lead Dayton past Fordham.

Dayton (21-4, 11-2 Atlantic 10), eyeing an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time in seven years, picked up its second win of the week after a setback at VCU on Feb. 9.

Javon Bennett had 14 points and Enoch Cheeks had 12 on 4-for-5 shooting from the floor for the Flyers.

Japhet Medor and Kyle Rose each scored 17 for Fordham (1015, 4-8), losers of four of five.

No. 17 CREIGHTON 79, BUTLER 57:

In Indianapol­is, Baylor Scheierman finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds, his sixth consecutiv­e double-double, and Ryan Kalkbrenne­r added 21 points as Creighton rolled past Butler.

Trey Alexander contribute­d 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Steven Ashworth had 12 points, eight assists and five boards for the Bluejays (19-7, 10-5 Big East).

Jalen Thomas scored 18 points for Butler (16-10, 7-8). Posh Alexander added 13 and DJ Davis 12 for the Bulldogs.

OKLAHOMA STATE 93, No. 19 BYU 83: In Stillwater, Okla., freshman Jamyron Keller scored 22 points in his first start to help Oklahoma State beat BYU.

Brandon Garrison added 21 points and Quion Williams had 15 for the Cowboys (11-14, 3-9 Big 12), who shot 50% from 3-point range (11 of 22) while limiting their opponent to 8-of-35 shooting from beyond the arc (22.9%).

Foussey Traore scored 17 points and Trevin Knell had 16 to lead BYU (18-7, 6-6), which came into the game leading the nation in made 3-pointers.

Keller, who turned 19 Saturday, made all eight of his shots, including four 3s for the Cowboys.

IOWA 88, No. 20 WISCONSIN 86, OT:

In Iowa City, Iowa, Tony Perkins’ layup with 1.3 seconds left gave Iowa an overtime win over Wisconsin.

Perkins, who had 16 of his 18 points in the second half and overtime, drove the right side of the lane, nearly losing the ball before recovering to hit the winning shot. Iowa’s Payton Sandfort then intercepte­d Carter Gilmore’s inbounds pass to close the win.

Owen Freeman led Iowa (15-11, 7-8 Big Ten) with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Sandfort had 18 points. Josh Dix scored 17.

Steven Crowl had 22 points to lead Wisconsin (17-9, 9-6). AJ Storr had 21 points and Chucky

Hepburn scored 18. No. 21 VIRGINIA 49, WAKE FOREST 47:

In Charlottes­ville, Va., Reece Beekman scored 20 points and Virginia overcame poor freethrow shooting to beat Wake Forest.

The Cavaliers (20-6, 11-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) also got 12 points from Isaac McKneely. He scored their only made free throw on their 11th and final attempt.

Ryan Dunn added six points, nine rebounds and seven of Virginia’s 13 blocks.

Hunter Sallis led the Demon Deacons (16-9, 8-6) with 12 points and Efton Reid III scored 10.

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 74, No. 23 INDIANA STATE 69:

In Carbondale, Ill., Xavier Johnson scored 23 points and Southern Illinois ended a 17-game losing streak against ranked opponents, overcoming a 13-point deficit to beat Indiana State.

Troy D’Amico added 15 points for the Salukis (17-10, 9-7 Missouri Valley) and Kennard Davis had 12 points.

Indiana State (22-5, 13-3), ranked for the first time since the Larry Bird-era, has lost two straight since entering the AP Top 25.

Robbie Avila led Indiana State with 30 points. He scored 19 of the Sycamores’ 37 first-half points.

Mountain West COLORADO STATE 75, UTAH

STATE 55: In Fort Collins, Colo., Isaiah Stevens’ 18 points helped Colorado State defeat Utah State.

Stevens had eight assists for the Rams (20-6, 8-5 Mountain West Conference). Joel Scott scored 17 points while shooting 7-of-9 from the field and added eight rebounds. Nique Clifford chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds.

Great Osobor led the Aggies (215, 9-4) with 15 points, 13 rebounds and two steals. Ian Martinez and Javon Jackson added 14 and 10 points, respective­ly, for Utah State.

Colorado State built a 43-26 halftime lead, with Scott racking up 14 points.

BOISE STATE 90, FRESNO STATE 66:

In Boise, Idaho, Tyson Degenhart scored 24 points to lead Boise State to a blowout win over Fresno State.

Degenhart hit 6-of-9 shots and 12-of-14 free throws for the Broncos (17-8, 8-4 Mountain West Conference). O’Mar Stanley scored 17, Max Rice chipped in 13 points and Chibuzo Agbo added 12 points for Boise State, which knocked down more than 58 percent of their shots from the field.

Four players scored in double figures for Bulldogs (11-15, 4-9), who were led in scoring by Isaiah Pope with 17 points.

Conference USA WESTERN KENTUCKY 72, NEW MEXICO STATE 58:

In Bowling Green, Ky., Teagan Moore had 12 points in Western Kentucky’s win and New Mexico State remained winless on the road.

Enoch Kalambay and Babacar Faye added 11 points apiece for the Hilltopper­s (19-7, 8-4 Conference USA).

The Aggies (11-15, 5-6) were led by Femi Odukale and Jaden Harris, who each recorded 13 points. Christian Cook also had nine points and two steals.

NMSU is 0-14 on the road and 11-1 at home.
