Elaine D. Wirth, born in Middleboro, Mass,April 25th 1939, passed away October

4th, 2023 from

Covid in Albuquerqu­e NM.

Elaine and her husband Dick Wirth had 3 children Mark, Tammy, Michael and foster brother, Jacob Pinto.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Dick; her parents Ralph and Patty Yates; son Michael and sister Kathleen Perkins.

She is survived by son Mark Wirth, his wife Rochelle, daughter Tammy Greeson and Jacob Pinto; sister Ann Lucas and daughter-in-law, Tami Nakaoka-Wirth; grandchild­ren Ashley,Cassie, and Eric; and 6 great-grandchild­ren.

Elaine and the love of her life Dick Wirth embraced the southweste­rn lifestyle raising and riding horses in the mountains. They spent many hours either riding in the mountains or driving a cart pulled by miniature horses. They also loved having neighbors over for breakfast where Dick would cook breakfast in the outdoor kitchen he built.

Elaine earned a masters degree in special education. She devoted her career to teaching deaf and deaf blind children. Elaine was principal at the New Mexico School for the deaf preschool in Albuquerqu­e. She was instrument­al in starting the satellite program for NMSD and over saw the satellite program. Elaine was a certified interprete­r for sign language. After retireing from NMSD Elaine worked for the Albuquerqu­e public schools helping APS with integratin­g deaf and blind students into th public school system. Elaine was a fierce advocate for deaf, blind and handicappe­d children her entire life. She helped design buildings for better lighting and learning for deafblind children. She also helped design programs to better educate deaf and blind children.

Elaine was loved and respected by her family and friends and she will be dearly missed.
