Degenhart, Stanley lead Boise State to win at Wyoming

LAS VEGAS — Dedan Thomas Jr. scored 23 points to lead UNLV to a 66-60 victory over No. 22 Colorado State on Saturday night, giving the surging Rebels seven wins in their past eight games.

Luis Rodriguez added 14 points for the Rebels (16-10, 9-5 Mountain West) and Keylan Boone had 11.

Isaiah Stevens led the Rams (208, 8-7) with 18 points, Joel Scott scored 13 and Nique Clifford finished with 10. Colorado State has lost three of four and dropped to 3-7 on the road.

Both teams were tied at 49 when UNLV — a 1½-point favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook — took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Boone with 5:01 left and two free throws by Thomas with 3:46 remaining.

The game became a free-throw shooting contest not long after that. Rodriguez made six in a row down the stretch and Thomas sank all four of his attempts to hold off a Rams rally.

Neither team shot well, each making less than 30%, but the Rebels were better from distance. They made 35.3% of their 3-pointers compared to Colorado State’s 25%.

The Rebels, however, lost a key player early in the second half when forward Rob Whaley Jr. went to the floor holding his left knee. Whaley, who scored in double figures in each of the preceding four games, wasn’t able to put pressure on that leg as he was helped to the locker room.

BOISE STATE 72, WYOMING 52:

In Laramie, Wyo., Tyson Degenhart had 22 points in Boise State’s win over Wyoming on Saturday night.

Degenhart shot 8-for-10 (3 of 4 from 3-point range) and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line for the Broncos (19-8, 10-4 Mountain West Conference). O’Mar Stanley scored 19 points and added seven rebounds. Max Rice was 4-of-9 shooting, including 2 for 6 from 3-point range, and went 6 for 6 from the line to finish with 16 points.

The Cowboys (13-14, 6-8) were led in scoring by Sam Griffin, who finished with 16 points. Mason Walters added 15 points and three steals for Wyoming. Kael Combs also had 12 points and five assists.

Degenhart led the Broncos with 15 points in the first half to help put them up 51-36 at the break.
