3 men take APD on chase, ram detective’s vehicle

Three men were arrested Wednesday after a police pursuit that included a suspect ramming a stolen truck into an Albuquerque police detective’s vehicle.

Gildardo Peralez, 28, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of auto burglary and breaking and entering.

Randy Lopez-Garcia, 33, and Andres Loya, 39, are charged with receiving and transferring a stolen vehicle, fleeing from police and auto burglary. Lopez-Garcia also has two felony warrants.

Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Gilbert Gallegos said at about 11:30 a.m., auto theft detectives spotted a stolen white Chrysler 300 in the area of Gibson and Interstate 25. Air support and other detectives followed the vehicle to the area of Delemar and Second NW, where passengers were dropped off at a different pickup truck with a stolen plate.

Gallegos said detectives recognized one of the people as Lopez-Garcia, who was known to have felony warrants.

He said detectives followed the truck — which was later reported stolen out of Corrales — driven by Peralez, who stopped multiple times and broke into multiple vehicles.

Detectives used a vehicle-apprehension device to stop the truck at Wyoming and Constitution NE, but the driver rammed a detective’s vehicle, causing two detectives to take cover behind the vehicle. The stolen truck sped off before being stopped by officers and abandoned, Gallegos said.

The men ran in the 1700 block of Broadway SE, where two of them were arrested, while the other hid in a supermarket before being taken into custody, Gallegos said.
