On the Rio Grande, Rob Vigil of Española caught a 21-inch rainbow trout using Salmon-Peach Glitter PowerBait on March 17. … Tiffany Mann of Albuquerqu­e caught a 26-inch pike using a black streamer fly with a pink head near Pilar on March 11.

At Tingley Beach, Armando Guzman of Albuquerqu­e caught a 6-pound largemouth bass using a big leech-pattern fly on March 17. … Ron Berlint of Albuquerqu­e caught and released a 5-pound largemouth bass using a fly on March 12. … Perla Rose, 2, of Tijeras caught her first trout with the help of her brothers Carson and Truman using Brown PowerBait on March 12. … Christian Quintana of Albuquerqu­e caught a 10-pound carp using a mop fly on March 11.

NOTES FROM GAME & FISH

Fishing for trout at Charette Lakes was good using worms and Orange PowerBait.

Fishing for perch at Eagle Nest Lake was good using small jigs tipped with worm. The lake remains open to ice fishing; however, it is restricted to foot traffic only and the lake edges are starting to thaw. The northern portion of the lake has water exposed from the shore to the main portion of the ice. Proceed with extreme caution when entering the ice. Avoid ice fishing near feeder streams or known springs, brush, logs, plants, docks or areas with multiple cracks or ice that is popping or otherwise weak. Fishing for trout at Morphy Lake was good using PowerBait and olive Hare’s Ear flies.

Streamflow on the Pecos River near Pecos on Monday morning was not measured due to ice. Fishing for trout was very good using streamer flies; black, white and olive Woolly Bugger flies; black-and-chartreuse, tungsten bead-head nymph flies and small, egg-pattern flies. Streamflow on the Red River below the Red River Hatchery on Monday morning was 38 cubic feet per second (cfs). Fishing for trout was fair to good using Hare’s Ear flies and black streamer flies.

Streamflow on the Rio Grande below the Taos Junction Bridge on Monday morning was 530 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using Blue-Wing Olive dry flies, white streamer flies and Salmon-Peach Glitter PowerBait. Fishing for pike was fair using black streamer flies.

Streamflow on the Animas River below Aztec on Monday morning was 248 cfs.

Fishing for bass at Cochiti Lake was fair using crankbaits. Fishing for trout at Riverside Park Pond (Aztec Pond #1) was good using rainbow-colored, Garlic PowerBait.

Fishing for trout at Tingley Beach was good using Brown PowerBait. Fishing for bass was fair to good using black leech-pattern flies. Fishing for carp was fair using mop flies.

Fishing for bass at Elephant Butte Lake was good using minnows. Fishing for catfish was good using cut shad bait and cut carp bait.

Streamflow on the Gila River near Gila on Monday morning was 248 cfs.

Fishing for trout at Quemado Lake was good using Pink PowerBait and Power Worms.

Streamflow on the Rio Grande below Elephant Butte Dam on Monday morning was 2,030 cfs. Fishing for catfish was good using worms and chicken liver near Socorro.

Fishing for trout at Bataan Lake was good using worms. Fishing for trout at Grindstone Reservoir was good using Garlic PowerBait, Rainbow PowerBait and red, zebra midgepatte­rn flies.

Fishing for trout at Lake Van was fair to good using white PowerBait Power Eggs.

Streamflow on the Pecos River below Sumner Lake on Monday morning was 74 cfs.

Streamflow on the Rio Ruidoso at Hollywood on Monday morning was 13 cfs.
