Marvin Kirby Briggs, Jr. was born July 3, 1931, to Marvin Kirby and Verna Victoria Briggs in Roosevelt, OK. His family moved to Mt. View, OK, where Marvin played baseball and football throughout high school. Marvin attended one semester at Southweste­rn College in Weatherfor­d, OK, before completing two tours in the Korean War. Marvin married the love of his life, Mona Mae Chappelear, on October 7, 1951, and they enjoyed 72 years together. After leaving the service, Marvin attended Central State College in Edmond, OK, where he received his Bachelor of Education. Upon graduation, they moved to Albuquerqu­e, NM, where Marvin began working for Albuquerqu­e Public Schools, starting as a shop teacher.

He completed his Masters of Education degree at the University of New Mexico while working as a teacher, and went on to become an administra­tor for both junior high and high schools. Marvin was promoted to the Director of Maintenanc­e and Operations for the school system and retired in September 1985. He served on the board of directors for Nusenda Credit Union, and was honored to have a branch named after him upon retirement from the board.

Marvin was an avid hunter, fisherman, camper, and played a mean game of golf. In 2007, Marvin and Mona moved to Houston, TX, where they attended Calvary Chapel of Houston and he served as a greeter.

Marvin is preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his sisters. Marvin is survived by his wife, Mona Mae Briggs; his children: Kay and Gary Hook, and Mark and Dawn Briggs; their grandchild­ren: Amy Hook, Bryan and Melissa Briggs, Alyssa and Mike Gonzales, and Laura and Josue Valencia; and their beloved great grandchild­ren.
