has officially started her tenure as dean of the Anderson School of Management at UNM.
Alina Chircu has officially started her tenure as dean of the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico.
The university announced in January that Chircu was going to be the next dean at the school. She started at the Anderson School this week.
She was previously at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, where she held a number of roles.
She was the interim dean of business, a faculty member and she was a member of the university president’s Cabinet.
“I look forward to working with our exceptional faculty, staff and students and collaborating with our dedicated alumni group and business community to support and enhance academic excellence, innovation and entrepreneurship and economic development,” Chircu said in a statement.
A native of Romania, Chircu has a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in business administration with a focus on management information systems.
Her teaching and research focuses include business process and value chain management, design thinking and other areas.
Chircu will replace Mitzi Montoya, who left UNM in January 2023 to be the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Utah.
“Dr. Chircu is just the leader we need to take the school to the next level,” said UNM Provost James Holloway.
