Santa Fe politics needs to be shaken up, not just stirred

- BY SARAH JANE ALLEN Sarah Jane Allen, of Albuquerque, is a candidate for House District 31. She faces Nicole Chavez and Patrick Huested in the June 4 Republican primary. Incumbent Republican Bill Rehm is not seeking reelection.

As our beloved state faces pressing challenges, it is imperative that we, as citizens, stand up and demand a brighter future. My name is Sarah Jane Allen and I’m running to be the next Republican state representative in House District 31 because our state is moving in the wrong direction.

I’ve lived in, served in our school system, raised my children and been a small business owner in the district for almost 30 years.

During that time I’ve witnessed the decline in our city. Crime is rampant, our schools are failing our kids, and politicians in both parties have failed us when it comes to securing the border.

Our porous southern border has caused chaos in Albuquerque. Drugs are widespread and too many of our children are dying from fentanyl. Homes are violated, businesses plundered, and vehicles ransacked as criminals operate to feed this vicious cycle while our leaders in Santa Fe sit on their hands. Just last year, a homeless man broke into my home while our children were just a feet away. Meanwhile the number of violent crimes have risen while the number of incarcerations have gone down.

My plan to combat this epidemic is simple. Stop the revolving door of criminals, ban sanctuary cities in New Mexico so criminals no longer roam our streets. I’ll also sponsor legislation so that if any drug dealer sells drugs that kill a fellow New Mexican, they will never be let out of jail again.

As a mother of six, 2020 was a very impactful year for me. Too many freedoms were ripped away from us and millions of children across the country have fallen behind because of the draconian policies implemented to keep our schools locked down. While many were vocal then, even the lockdown champions have admitted our children were hurt because of those policy decisions.

Our state falls near the bottom in education but we sit on one of the world’s great energy reserves.

It’s a travesty that our education system isn’t world class but that’s because we continue to elect the same old go-along-to-get-along politicians in Santa Fe.

I’m not part of the Santa Fe crowd, I’m going to shake it up. If you’re tired of the status quo and believe the state must do better. I’d humbly ask for your vote on June 4th. https://sarahjaneallenfornm.com/
