ITALY, A UNIVERSAL TREASURE
The greatest number of sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List is located in the Belpaese. 59 sites that are so much more than their untainted and unique beauty. They are a representation of that cultural syncretism produced – over the centuries – by the continuous coming together of different civilizations and the exchange of cultural influences. Places that represent both an exchange as well as a true identity; unique landscapes with an extraordinary life. Included in the World Heritage List in 2008, Mantua is certainly one such place. It is a symbol of evolution, a city whose history is closely linked to the vicissitudes of the Gonzagas, one of the most powerful families in the history of Italy, and a skillful government that lasted 400 years. How could one not mention Venice and its lagoon which have come back to life with the “great mother” of the world’s two-yearly exhibitions, namely the International Art Exhibition established in 1895; also simply known as the “Biennale” (every two years). This year, the 17th International Architecture Exhibition confirms its place among the highest ranking in the world of art exhibitions. A place where, for 126 years now, the most diverse political, economic and geographical backgrounds and artistic personalities have been brought together to give life to an unparalleled human tale. Last, merely though an order in time, Bologna’s Porticoes. Not just urban paths, but an in-depth mark of the most intimate identity of a city that is queen of culture. Places that protect, embrace and foster encounters. A collective emotion that is renewed every single day. All About Italy brings authentic Italian food and wine experiences to the U.S. We’re going to celebrate one of the most important products of the Italian gastronomic tradition in San Francisco: Balsamic Vinegar of Modena.
