Cibola freshman

The lowdown:

Payton was one of just two local girls to individually qualify for the Division I state meet, doing so in the 100 fly. She also swam both the 400 free relay and the 200 medley relay at state, helping the Raiders place 14th in the latter. At the Colorado River Championships, where she helped Cibola win the girls team title, Payton was a four-event champ (100 fly, 500 free, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay). Payton’s season-best times in the 50 free (27.04) and 500 free (5:47.07) both ranked first locally.
