Fat and protein are the building blocks of hormones, so it’s important not to fear fat. “A good amount of fat in our diets and a sufficient amount of fat on the body are both needed in order to produce hormones such as growth hormones, estradiol, leptin, and testostero­ne,” says registered dietitian Julie Stefanski. “When you don’t get enough fat, you may not produce enough hormones for bone and reproducti­ve health.” Healthy fat sources include salmon and nuts, which also contain protein.
