SAN JOSE >> Vocera Communications has struck a deal that will enable it to expand its local operations and move to a new headquarters site in San Jose.

The health care-oriented software and communications firm has signed a sublease for 78,000 square feet in north San Jose, a federal regulatory filing shows.

The company intends to move its headquarters and primary location operations to 3030 Orchard Parkway in San Jose, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

San Jose-based Vocera said its headquarters relocation is slated to occur sometime in February 2022, the SEC documents show.

At present, Vocera Communications leases roughly 70,000 square feet at 525 Race St. in San Jose, according to a separate company quarterly filing on

May 5 with the SEC.

Vocera originally moved its headquarters to the Race Street location in 2007, taking 46,000 square feet through its initial rental deal in San Jose.

At the new north San Jose headquarters site, Vocera is subleasing the building from Arlo Technologies.

Vocera provides software and communication tools to help health care workers who are constantly moving around at a site such as a hospital to operate more efficiently.

“Team members use our solutions to communicate and collaborate with coworkers by securely texting or calling, and to be notified of important alerts and alarms,” Vocera states in a post on its website.

The company’s technology can also be woven into existing health care systems.

“Interoperability between the Vocera Platform and more than 150 clinical and operational systems helps reduce alarm fatigue, speed up staff response times, and improve patient care, safety, and experience,” according to the Vocera website.

Vocera also appears to have moved into industries beyond health care.

“In addition to healthcare, Vocera is at home in luxury hotels, aged care facilities, retail stores, schools, power facilities, libraries, and more,” Vocera stated.

Despite losing money, Vocera is on a trend pointing towards less red ink and expanding revenue.

During the one-year period that ended in March 2021, Vocera lost $6.8 million and generated revenue of $206.4 million. For the full year of 2020, Vocera lost $9.7 million on revenue of $198.4 million.

“Vocera solutions make mobile workers safer and more effective by enabling them to connect instantly with other people and access resources or information quickly,” the company stated on its website.
