In a recent study comparing rates of incidence and death from colorectal (bowel) cancer in 184 countries, a higher risk of both was found in inhabitants of countries with more economical development. According to the study, bowel cancer has now replaced infection-related cancers as the second most prevalent in several middle income countries, and it will only become more common as these countries’ economies accelerate. Recently, extremely developed countries such as the USA, Australia, and New Zealand have experienced stabilization or decline in incidence and death.
