Fishy in More Ways than One
There’s a new fish in the pond, and this one’s not quite like the others. Last November, the FDA approved GM salmon to be safe to eat and as nutritious as any non-GE Atlantic species. The frankenfish grows more rapidly than its natural cousins due to an rDNA construct composed of the growth hormone gene of Chinook salmon and controlled by a DNA sequence from an entirely different fish—the ocean pout. Manufacturers are still not required to label food as containing GMOs.
