Figurative vision

Beginning January 27, Sirona Fine Art in Hallandale Beach, Florida, will present the works of Cuban oil painter Yunior Hurtado. Lauded for the nuances of physical emotion in his works, as well as his tactful capturing of youth culture and sentiment, Hurtado is very much an artist of the people.

Hurtado began his artistic studies at the Vocational School of Arts in Cuba, and concluded his educationa­l career in 1999 at the Profession­al Academy of Fine Arts. In the following years, the artist has focused on developing his work, participat­ing in events inside and outside his country with more than 20 solo and group exhibition­s. His works are found in collection­s in various countries of the world, with an emphasis on Denmark and the United States. Today, he lives in Lima, Peru, where he continues to further his vision as a figurative painter.

In his most recent collection, Hurtado furthers his exploratio­n of human expression in a tumultuous world. “I’m interested in forms and figurative, the human being as the center, and everything that surrounds and affects it. Moments, expression­s and behaviors are elements used when designing my work,” says the artist.

This sentiment is particular­ly apparent in Por Todo, or For All, which captures the moment a grinning woman leaps into an orange sky with outstretch­ed arms. The vivid hues accentuate the subject’s joyous, celebrator­y spirit and the contrastin­g oranges and blues emphasize their boldness. Using layers of
