Born in Mexico, Arturo Samaniego’s first formal art studies took place at Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. In 2004, he took the plunge to become a full-time artist, with the past 14 years having been a journey that’s allowed Samaniego to develop his career. He now has galleries representing his work in different parts of the country including Miami, Houston, Charleston and Denver.
“I have always been interested in creating art that uses aesthetic values, a high level of technical execution and poetic sense to convey a view of an elevated humanity. This is the reason
I feel part of, and identify with, the contemporary figurative current,” says the artist. “For all our failures I still believe there is a higher purpose and destiny for each one of us. In my work I try to present that mysterious moment, gesture, expression that takes a person out of the ordinary and reveals the sublime code that makes them transcendent.”
Samaniego’s current series, Dreamers, explores “the idea of duality in human existence by juxtaposing different styles in the same painting,” he says. “I use a classical oil technique in the figure to render external appearance, while the fluid acrylic abstract expresses the internal life of the psyche.”
