51 Atlantic Highway, Thomaston, ME 04861, (207) 354-8141 www.thomastonauction.com Thomaston Place Auction Galleries is Maine’s premier auction company dedicated to consistently delivering an outstanding customer experience for both consignors and bidders. For over 45 years, Thomaston Place owner and auctioneer Kaja Veilleux has discovered many important pieces in estates and collections that have brought world record prices at auction.

Every August, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries presents an eagerly anticipated summer auction of extraordinary new discoveries, and this year’s sale on August 24, 25 and 26 will be no exception. It will feature important American artwork sourced from New England and Florida homes, including pieces from the Coral Gables Estate of notable collectors Arthur and Ruth Sokoloff. Maine’s Mid-Coast is a seasonal Wyeth family retreat, and two locally discovered works by Andrew Wyeth and son Jamie Wyeth will be presented in this sale.

These include two pieces by Andrew: Spruce Timber, a 1946 watercolor depicting two men using a bucksaw painted at Broad Cove Farm in Cushing, Maine, and an inscribed mixed media study for the Olson House that was found in the house and consigned by John Olson Sr. Jamie’s Fog, a beautiful oil on linen painting of an array of purple irises set against fog-bound pine trees, will also be offered.

Also among the more than 200 pieces of artwork offered will be two works by Sigmund Menkes including a bold still life titled Poppies. The sale will also present a lovely 1890 seascape by Alfred Thompson Bricher called Sunrise Coasters.

The auction will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern time on each sale day. In addition to live bidding in the auction hall, Thomaston Place accepts bids via absentee, telephone and three online platforms. The gallery will be open for previews Monday, August 20, through Thursday, August 23, and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday before the auction begins.

As one of Maine’s premier auction and appraisal companies, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries’ expertise in researching and marketing antiques and fine art has earned them the respect of buyers, collectors and experts worldwide.

“Finding a rare or extraordinary treasure is always exhilarating, but I equally enjoy helping people appreciate the history and value of their items. Our emphasis on personal service and providing knowledge to our clients builds trust and helps clients make more informed decisions.”
