SOUTHEASTERN WILDLIFE EXPOSITION
Charleston, SC, (843) 723-1748 www.sewe.com
Celebrating its 37th annual event from February 14 to
17, Southeastern Wildlife Exposition continues to present among the finest in wildlife and sporting art at multiple venues throughout historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina. SEWE is one of the premier wildlife art shows in the east, hosting more than 100 artists annually that include well-respected veterans, midcareer artists and talented up-and-comers.
One painter is selected as Featured Artist each year, with the 2019 artist being Lou Pasqua. Artists honored with this distinction over the years have included Brett Smith, Carl Brenders, Luke Frazier, John Banovich, Dustin Van Wechel and Eldridge Hardie. Sandy Scott and Walter Matia will be joining the 2019 show as Guest Sculptors, along with artists Ezra Tucker, Stefan Savides, Julie Jeppsen, Kathryn Mapes Turner, Grant Hacking and more.
“In the past several years, Charleston has enjoyed a vibrant and renewed energy on the art front,” says Natalie Henderson, art curator of SEWE. “This is most apparent over the lively SEWE weekend when hotels host artists in residency, restaurants welcome live painting demonstrations and galleries enjoy an increased number of collectors. Charleston becomes an art-centric party during SEWE.”
A limited number of VIP packages are available, which offer private viewings, insider access and exclusive events throughout the weekend. Among the highlighted events during SEWE are the Signature Gala & Sale on February 14 from 1 to 5 p.m.; the Quick Draw/Speed Sculpt and Auction held at 3 p.m. on February 15; and the SEWE Soiree, an open-air party with Lowcountry cuisine held February 16 from 7 to 11 p.m.
