John Oleinik
John Oleinik has been an architect with a private practice since 1983 following his graduation from Syracuse University School of Architecture. Today he is one of the last of the classically trained architects that continue to hand draw architectural projects. His designs have always emphasized the art of manipulating light and space. It comes as no surprise that when Oleinik picked up a paintbrush five years ago his paintings would also rely heavily on light and space in a unique and extraordinary way. These images of architectural expression are in the traditions of the École des Beaux-Arts. Additionally, the sense of three dimensions is amplified using techniques and a colors inspired by Maxfield Parrish.
Works such as Symphony, Rage Against the Machine and Gothic Cathedral are from his Roller Coaster Series. Most of his works are inspired by places close to his Mission Beach studio in San Diego, California. This series portrays the 92-yearold Giant Dipper roller coaster in the evening light as the sun sets.
Oleinik is an active member and current head of exhibitions for the 103-year-old San Diego Museum of Art Artist Guild.
