ART SHOW PREVIEW
The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association presents a milestone invitational October 6 to 14.
In 1999, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association held its very first Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational. This year marks the milestone 20th edition of the event, with 50 artists from around the United States convening at a new venue, the Festival of Arts pavilion, for nine days of festivities, from October 6 to 14.
Among the participants are Peter Adams, Cindy Baron, John Budicin, John Cosby, Bill Davidson, Jennifer Diehl, Jeff Horn, Peggi Kroll-Roberts, Jim McVicker, Michael Obermeyer, Jesse Powell, Scott W. Prior, Camille Przewodek and Bryan Mark Taylor.
In honoring the landmark 20th year, as well as the rich history of the arts in Laguna Beach, there are a number of special events and celebrations planned. Included is the release of LPAPA’s first book displaying 19 years of the invitational Best of Show winners. There also will be the several paint outs and quick draws, allowing collectors the chance to experience the creation of the artwork firsthand.
The first event is the Quick Draw Painting Competition at Heisler Park, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., on October 7. Immediately following the plein air painting, artists will gather for a Meet & Greet reception at the Festival of Arts from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and then from 1:30 to 3 p.m. is the sale where attendees can purchase the freshly painted works. Also notable are the Nocturne Paint Out on October 9 at 6 p.m.; the Next Generation Paint Out on October 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring college students painting works of the area; and painting demonstrations between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on October 12.
There also will be the Collectors Gala on October 13 from 7 to 10:30 p.m., while the last chance to view the Invitational Art Show will be October 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
