PLEIN AIR ARTISTS COLORADO’S 22ND ANNUAL NATIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION
The Plein Air Artists Colorado’s national show features more than 200 plein air paintings.
Established out of the love for plein air painting, the Plein Air Artists Colorado hosts its 22nd annual National Juried Exhibition at Sorrel Sky Gallery in Durango. The show, taking place October 6 to 28, will feature nearly 200 plein air pieces created by around 100 artists, highlighting their fresh perspectives of landscapes and city scenes. Among the artists juried into this year’s show is Jennifer Riefenberg, who will present her snow-capped mountain painting Rockies.
Leading up to the opening weekend festivities, artists from PAAC will be invited to participate in a “Destination Paint-Out” from October 1 to 4, where they can discover new subject matter throughout Durango. On October 5, at Sorrel Sky, will be the opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. During the reception will be the awards presentation of the works selected by this year’s judge, Gerald Merfeld.
Sorrel Sky Gallery owner Shanan Campbell Wells is looking forward to hosting the exhibition and sharing the town. She says, “I may be mildly biased, but what better location in Colorado for plein air painting than Durango in the fall? With its historic downtown streets and neighborhoods, the Narrow Guage Train, the Animas River and its many picturesque bridges, Durango is a plein air painter’s paradise.”
