Civil rights activist Peggy Cooper Cafritz, who passed away earlier this year, bequeathed a major collection of more than 400 works of art by contemporary artists of African descent to the Studio Museum in Harlem. Cafritz also left 305 works to Washington, D.C.’s Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
