According to Fred Danziger, “If you are an artist, imbued with the love of light and form, you go through life ‘seeing paintings.’ Whether in the city, or in nature, ‘moments of light’ jump out and demand to be painted! These moments are ephemeral and almost never become realized. But sometimes you have your paints, a sketchbook or a camera, and you are able to retain and document that event. Sometimes you succeed in making that singular blip of time visible as art. That is what you live for as an artist.”

At the age of 19, Danziger enrolled as a student at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where he was exposed to diverse aesthetic ideas through classical training. “I immersed myself in everything from post-impressionism to Dadaism, all the while studying the figure in the manner made famous by fine art academies,” he says. “Somehow, I sorted it all out and realized that, for me, the only thing that really matters as an artist is the rendering of light and form and the commitment to seeking my truth through a faithful portrayal of the observed external world.”

Danziger adds, “Because art is one of the few things you can do at a high level for your entire life, you can explore a multitude of paths, as time and circumstances change. In essence, it is not about becoming ‘famous’ or attaining financial reward. Art is simply a lifelong journey of discovery and revelation.”

January 24 to February 24, Danziger’s work will be on view at Rosemont College in Rosemont, Pennsylvania. He is represented by F.A.N. Gallery in Philadelphia, where his next exhibition is scheduled for October 2019.
