COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Lake Area Artists exhibition
Since 1966, the Lake Area Artists has been promoting the arts in the Oswego Lake area of Oregon by acquainting the public with the work of local artists. One of the yearly highlights for the 40-member group is the Lake Area Art Show & Sale where they exhibit new pieces at the Lakewood Center for the Arts. This year’s show will take place May 3 through 5, with receptions happening the first two days of the show from 3 to 6:30 p.m.
The show will include artwork in a number of mediums and styles by artists such as Lorraine Bushek, Deborah Marble, Leslie Cheney-Parr, Airi Foote, Theresa
Andreas-O’Leary, Rene Eisenbart, Mary Burgess and Patrice Cameron, to name a few.
Among Bushek’s works is Dots, Diamonds, Arrows, Stars, which came to her mind when trying to find something new to paint. “Every object has been painted in a still life at some point in time, so, it is nearly impossible to come up something new,” Bushek shares. “A pile of men’s shirts I saw was the inspiration for this painting. It dawned on me that this could be a novel subject for a still life especially if I used stencils for the tie patterns.”
For her watercolor Waiting Tables, Marble captures a moment that everyone notices when inside a restaurant. She explains, “Restaurants provide lots of subject matter for those of us who enjoy figure drawing. Waiters, intent on their work, aprons flapping, trays overloaded—all of that makes great material.”
Wiser says she finds her most intriguing subjects when she heads off to rural areas. “Off Road was inspired by the contrasts of warm deciduous fall colors juxtaposed with the mysterious shadowed evergreens one warm October afternoon in a natural area in rural Washington state near the base of Mount Adams called ‘Conboy Meadow Reserve,’" she says. “I especially like the hint of human activity in the remote scene.”
During the annual show and sale, the Lake Area Artists present their annual Spectrum Project, which is a rainbow wall of 42 8-by-8-inch paintings. Each piece costs $60, with all proceeds awarded as art scholarships for Lake Oswego High School and Lakeridge High School.
