ARTIST FOCUS PAGES
Carla D’aguanno’s passion for figure painting began in high school, grew stronger in college and remains today. “There’s a hidden treasure or captivating presence in a child, or woman or a majestic horse that compels me to bring it to life in canvas,” she says.
“The challenge for me lies in creating the harmonious balance of light, shadow and composition that all work together for a dynamic relationship. The unique characteristics and natural beauty of a woman can draw the viewer in for a closer look. Invoking a range of emotions while revealing a story is my intention, and a childhood memory or experience often triggers many themes and moods that determine the outcome of a piece.”
Most of the models D’aguanno uses are family and friends, since it’s important for her to be familiar with their personalities and the nature that brings forth a story to reveal their inner treasures. She says, “The brilliance of light, depth and color that dance around the subject are also paramount. I feel that my purpose as an artist is to portray the magnificence in the world around me which the Creator has abundantly supplied and bestowed upon us, and I am truly grateful for the gift I’ve been given to hopefully bring some joy and peace to share with others.”
May 10 through June 7 her painting Pink Lullaby will be on view at Illume Gallery of Fine Art in St. George, Utah, for the Oil Painters of America’s 28th annual National Juried Exhibition of Traditional Oils.
