ART SHOW PREVIEWS
The fifth annual Olmsted Plein Air Invitational welcomes 26 contemporary impressionists to paint Georgia.
Each spring in Atlanta, more than two dozen artists from around the United States gather for the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational where they will paint throughout Georgia, capturing its urban grandeur and the coastlines. For 2019 the plein air event will take place April 28 through May 5 and includes a number of must-attend events that feature not only the juried artists but other painters who want to take to the streets during the two-hour Paint Quick Competition. As part of the festivities, galleries and arts organizations in the area also host demos, workshops and exhibitions.
Along with the weeklong paint out, there will be the Meet the Artists Welcome Party on April 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Smith Family Farm. This ticketed event allows collectors and the 26 juried artists the chance to meet one another and experience the natural beauty of Atlanta. Paintings the artists created throughout the weekend, and at the Atlanta History Center grounds earlier the same day, will be on display for the show and sale.
Saturday, May 4, is the Artists Awards & Collectors Soirée, which is the first opportunity to see the entire competition show. Then, on May 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., is the Paint Quick Competition, Awards & Sale. The plein air competition is open to any artist who would like to participate. This event happens at Olmsted Linear Park where all artists have two hours to complete their works. At 12:30 p.m. will be the awards presentation. All pieces remain on sale until 2 p.m. Closing the show will be the Public Art Sale on May 5, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Miami Circle.
