Artistic Visions
Haynes Galleries opens a group exhibition led by nocturnes by Linden Frederick.
In 2017, Linden Frederick mounted his solo exhibition Night Stories at Forum Gallery in New York City. The show was a discourse between the paintings and the written word, as some of the country’s best writers were asked to write prose to accompany the 15 nocturnal landscapes. Novelist Ann Patchett, who wrote Bel Canto, was paired with Frederick’s painting Vacant. The painting will now be the centerpiece of a new exhibition at Haynes Galleries in Franklin, Tennessee, along with some of his other nocturnes.
Along with Frederick’s paintings, the show will present pieces by some of today’s leading contemporary artists. Guest artists include Alan Feltus, Alan Magee, Alyssa Monks, Guillermo Muñoz Vera, Brian Rutenberg, Tula Telfair and Jesus Villarreal. The show, which is a collaboration with Forum Gallery, will hang May 2 through June 29.
According to Haynes Galleries, “Clarity of artistic vision and craft are the common threads of these artworks. Each artist works in a different style depicting a variety of genres. There are Magee’s close-up still lifes of paint tubes and smooth river rocks, while Muñoz Vera focuses on arrangements of ancient pottery and images of exquisitely manicured courtyards. Telfair’s views of icebergs on perfectly still water are seen alongside Monk’s sun-splashed forestscapes. A focus on the human figure appears in Villarreal’s cool self-portrait and Feltus’ posed surrealistic groupings. And, of course, Frederick’s small town views, devoid of figures, contemplate modern life in often forgettable places.”
