With 12 painters and nine sculptors, Pippin Contemporary’s gallery radiates energy, movement and vibrant abstraction to provide “a sensory experience of color and mood.” Owned by artist Aleta Pippin, the gallery’s artists have been creating for a number of years, having honed their craft to a state of excellence. The gallery chose the artists for their energetic and tactile expressions represented in their art—ranging from original paintings in vibrant colors to sculpture in stone, metal, glass, bronze and kinetic. As Pippin suggests, “their passion creates an element of surprise and beauty, offering you the viewer, an opportunity to reflect, to access emotions and to explore your thoughts.”
May has been designated Sculpture Month culminating on Memorial Weekend with a sculpture and garden tour, with currently 26 galleries participating. Pippin will have six sculptors who will be giving presentations and demonstrations of their craft, which range from kiln-formed glass sculpture to hammered brass in addition to bronze, steel, glass and stone.
Another important show is Rebecca Haines’ Color Me Curious solo exhibition, with an opening reception Friday, May 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. New paintings reveal Haines’ artistic evolution and experiences over the past year while continuing to express the artist’s resonance with wild animals as spiritual beings. Abstract mark making, meandering lines and loose color fields are consistent to her aesthetic, yet the work evolves with new cultural inspiration and more complex color palettes.
“We’re looking forward to our 2019 season,” says Pippin. “With two important new events happening this year—Sculpture Month and Santa Fe Art Week—we’re optimistic about Santa Fe as an important art destination and we’re enthused about the art market in general.”
