Ventana Fine Art is located in the historical red brick schoolhouse on Santa Fe’s famous Canyon Road. For 35 years, Ventana has enjoyed the reputation as one of the Southwest’s premier exhibition spaces, showcasing among the best in contemporary American painting and sculpture. Its comfortable, sun-filled gallery opens to two inviting landscaped sculpture gardens, and visitors are welcomed seven days a week.

“The Santa Fe art market is vibrant, healthy and strong,” says gallery owner Connie Axton. “People can find an immense and varied selection of genre, style, and price point with great ease because galleries are clustered in three compact, walkable areas, Canyon Road, Downtown and the Railyard. Santa Fe’s reputation as a phenomenal source for original art makes it likely that the strength of the market will only grow.”

Ventana Fine Art announces the arrival of a new body of work by John Axton, who in more than 35 years with the gallery has enjoyed success in each of several major stylistic periods. In his new series of original oil paintings, Axton gives homage to Russian-Polish artist Kazimir Malevich (1879-1935), whose pioneering work in the early 20th century has had a profound and lasting influence on abstract and non-objective fine art. Axton honors the groundbreaking ideals of Malevich’s Suprematism in a series of razor-sharp compositions with all the Axton hallmarks: engaging design, flawless brushwork and access to imagined worlds that unify color, form, feeling and the metaphysical.

Axton’s latest works are on view now and will be part of the show Axton/Dawson/ Agius: Three Destinies that opens July 26 from 5 to 7 p.m.
