Tina Garrett
Tina Garrett often is taken away by her vivid dreams, with them pulling her in a thousand directions. “Then the idea of making them come true takes over and I’m lost in the challenge of solving the complex problems necessary to create the illusion in paint,” she says. “I spend ages working primarily wet into wet, inch by inch, to push the concept past a representation and into the realm of a work of art.”
When Garrett is finished with a work, she titles it and leaves the story unwritten. She loves to provoke viewers into offering their interpretation of the narratives, leading to “the most visceral stories” through comments on social media or on her blog, notes on anonymous cards left at her exhibitions and sometimes through whispers in her ear.
Garrett adds, “By letting go of this stage of the process and giving it over to the viewer, they become a participant in the process and not only do I gain insight into what is in their hearts, but my heart is fed with inspiration limited only by the number of those willing to participate.”
Garrett is an ARC Associate Living Master, a master artist of the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society, a Portrait Society of America Cecilia Beaux
Forum Mentor and as FASO BoldBrush Signature Artist. Garrett teaches workshops across the U.S., Europe and South Africa at art centers including the Scottsdale Artists’ School, the Florence Studio, Village Arts of Putney and the Denver Art Students League. Her first instructional video released in 2019.
