Art Show Previews
The Light Chasers’ ninth annual show will include more than 200 plein air paintings.
For the past eight years, the Light Chasers: Plein Air Painters of the Sun Coast have hosted a weekend of exhibitions at the Edson Keith Mansion at Phillippi Estate Park. The festivities this year will take place January 24 through 26, and combine the talents of its member artists and eight Featured Artists—Dominic Avant, Katie Dobson Cundiff, Susan J. Foster, Joseph McGurl, Terry Mason, Joseph Melancon, Morgan Samuel Price and Hodges Soileau.
The exhibition is a culmination of the annual Paint Sarasota Paint Out! that the group hosts in Florida each year where they spend a week, January 16 to 22, painting throughout the town. Seen on the canvases are places such as Ringling College, Spanish Point and the estate itself.
On January 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. is the ninth annual Members Show and Featured Artists Show, and the following night, also from 5 to 8 p.m., is the exhibition of works painted during the paint out. Both nights, at 7 p.m., prizes will be awarded for what the judge considers the best paintings in the exhibitions. Sunday, January 26, collectors can take one final look through the exhibition and make their last purchases. Donations at the door and 30 percent of the sales go to the restoration of the Edson Keith Farmhouse.
Light Chasers will top off their winter season of events with a Quick Draw on February 12 with nearly 100 artists painting throughout the Phillippi Estate Park. Artists will paint from 9 to 11 a.m., with the artwork available to purchase until 2 p.m.
