Arthi Arumugam
Arthi Arumugam was born in India and she currently resides in Richardson, Texas. Her ability in handling different mediums has helped her achieve national recognition for her artwork. Since childhood, Arumugam has had a fascination with art that continues today. Her compositions are largely imagined scenes derived from the smallest and insignificant things in life.
Working in pastel, Arumugam uses a realistic style that mimics photography. Being an animal lover, she often draws pets and wildlife. Her pastel pieces Cute Bella and Mother Fox and Cubs clearly show her imagination. The inspiration behind the composition for Cute Bella was remembering her cat Bella, while Mother Fox and Cubs has a narrative of maternal love. Arumugam catches timeless fragments of life in her work—whether it’s the intricate lines of the human hand, the delicate folds of a garment or a tarnished piece of silver. Each piece is drawn in detailed simplicity.
Arumugam has conducted workshops in Indian villages, and even though it did not support her financially, the joy of teaching made her feel content. The enthusiasm from Arumugam motivated the students to accomplish their dreams.
Arumugam is an accomplished portrait artist, also known for painting wildlife, still life and modern compositions. In the future, she hopes to create art projects to raise awareness about wildlife and climate change. Her work has appeared in national exhibitions for the National Society of Artists and at the Art Center of Corpus Christi. Her recent international awards have helped her receive recognition around the country. She is a member of the Pastel Society of America and the Portrait Society of America.
