Open Shelves

-

Open shelves are another feature on trend with farmhouse style, and there are several options when it comes to the look and installation. You can use L brackets or another type of bracket, which will give the shelves an industrial look. These also have a structural benefit for shelves that won’t bear too much weight—they don’t need to be installed into a wall stud. Always try to install open shelves on wall studs for the best support, but if the area doesn’t have a stud and you won’t be placing much weight on the shelves, you’ll be fine with a few drywall anchors.

Floating shelves also have an appealing design look. The disadvantage is that because you need to use a pocket jig to secure the shelves onto the wall, floating shelves always need to go directly into the studs. Examine the area where you want to add open shelves before you decide on your installation method so you know your available options.
