LAUNDRY LIST

-

Looking to renovate your laundry room or mudroom? Here are some practical

elements you’ll want to consider.

1. FOLDING STATION. Install a simple countertop along any wall to provide a place to fold clothing and towels while you’re waiting for the next load to dry. You can even keep an extra towel on hand to lay down and use as a mini ir oning board for small creases or steaming.

2. WASHER AND DRYER PEDESTAL.

If you have a front-facing washer/ dryer set, raise them to your level to save your back from uncomfortable bending. You can set them atop a sturdy shelf or wooden pallet, and you can even place convenient baskets for storage underneath.

3. PET STATION. The mudroom is a perfect place to station your furry friend’s food and water. With the right design, you can create a seamless station that both you and your pet will appreciate.

4. HIDDEN DRYING RACK. Whether you place it along the wall or hang it from the ceiling, a fold-away drying rack is perfect for hanging delicates or other air-dry laundry without needing to take them outdoors. Once the laundry is dry, you can fold it away or tuck it into a cabinet to save space.

5. LINEN BASKETS. For easy reach and visibility, store your linens right in the mudroom. You can add a small built-in cabinet near your washer and dryer with coordinating baskets that can hold your extra towels and sheets or even laundry supplies and single socks looking for their mates.

With a clear view from the mudroom to the kitchen (and vice versa), Stefani wanted to make sure the flow of the rooms matched. “Keeping true to the bones of the architecture while infusingpersonality is nuanced,” she says. "I wanted to orientthe space to eliminate clutter and appliances from the line of sight from the kitchen.” When deciding if you want to get a front or top-loading washer, keep in mind that front-loading washers sometimes use less water and energy(and are convenient to stack), but they’re also more likely to develop mold and a musty smell over time.
