DIY VINTAGE WHITE FURNITURE
One of Leslie’s favorite DIY tools is paint powder, which you can mix with water. Here’s how you can
use it to refinish a piece with a vintage vibe.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
Furniture of choice
TSP or another furniture cleaner
Sand paper
Paint powder (Leslie uses Old Barn Milk Paint) Water, as required for the paint powder
Paint stir stick
Paint brush of choice
Paint scraper
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Prepare the piece by cleaning it and following it up with a light sanding. Don’t skip this step, as the paint will last longer if you prep the surface correctly.
Mix the paint powder with the required amount of water and mix thoroughly.
Apply the paint to the piece for your desired appearance, waiting between coats for the paint to dry. Use one coat for a thin and rustic layer, or two to three for a solid look.
Use a paint scraper to chip away the paint in areas where, as Leslie says, “natural aging would take place,” such as corners and edges. This is where paint such as her favorite Old Milk Barn Paint truly shines and chips away perfectly for a vintage effect.
