FLOATING BUILT-IN SHELVES

-

Try this fun and easy project of built-in shelving. Not only does this

add a timeless feel to your space, but it also serves a functional role of displaying books or other

vintage pieces.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

• Pine boards

• Three 2x2 support beams for each shelf (alternatively, floating shelf brackets)

• Stud finder

• Level tool

• Screws and screwdriver, drywall anchors

• Paint or stain of choice

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

1. Measure and cut all your wood boards to fit your space. If you’re using the 2x2 support beams, cut these also so they meet in the corners and the boards rest on top.

2. Use the stud finder to locate the studs in your walls. Try to screw the shelves into a stud; if there’s no stud nearby, use drywall anchors.

3. Using a level tool, screw the 2x2 support beams into the walls. Make sure the ends meet in the corners. If you’re opting for the brackets, screw these into the wall.

4. Lay the boards on top of the supports and screw the boards into the support beams (or into the brackets).

5. Paint or stain your shelves. You can opt for a dramatic dark color like

Deb did (Wrought Iron by Benjamin Moore) or a neutral color or stain to blend seamlessly into your space.

6. Add finishing touches to your shelves to decorate them. Then enjoy!
