"When we do vintage, we like to sit it next to something new to get that high-intensity contrast.”

“There’s a cool quote from designer Barclay Butera, where he talks about designing a space that’s unbuttoned sophistication,” Lance says. “The way the space moves and how the furniture allows you to relax looks to the eye to be hotel luxe chic, but it has an unbuttoned casual function to it.”

For example, Lance uses different fabrics to get that dual look he wanted. He starts with sturdy fabrics that can get wear and tear. “We used leather and Crypton, and fabrics that are stain-proof,”

Lance says. “After I bring in textiles I know can do heavy lifting, I pair them with velvets and silks and others for places not used as much.”

NEW AND OLD

Old and new items are also juxtaposed in the home. For example, in the dining room, the table is a 200-year-old French antique, while the chairs are new. “When we do vintage, we like to sit it next to something new to get that high-intensity contrast,” Lance says.
