DIY BOARD-AND-BATTEN Wall

-

Create an eye-catching accent wall that looks like board and batten with this DIY.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED: • 1" furring strips

• 1x3" pine (to trim the top of the wall)

• Construction adhesive

• Nail gun

• Measuring tape

• Saw

• Wood putty

• Optional: Caulk

• Paint of choice and paint supplies WHAT YOU’LL DO: 1. Prepaint the wall in your chosen color and let it dry overnight (this will make it easier to paint the strips afterward).

2. Once the paint has dried, affix the 1x3" pine boards to the top of the wall using construction adhesive and the nail gun. The boards should butt up against the ceiling.

3. Next, measure the furring strips to place in

12" increments vertically across your wall. Cut the strips to the height of your wall and apply them with construction adhesive on the back of every strip and nail them into place.

4. Apply wood filler over every nail hole and sand smooth after it dries.

5. Optional: Caulk the sides of the furring strips against the wall prior to painting them.

6. Lastly, paint the furring strips the same color as the wall. Start by painting the sides of the strips with a chip brush, and then finish the job by rolling the fronts to smooth everything down. Take a seat and enjoy the view.
