THINK Outside the Box
When setting a table with vintage items or pieces you already have, a little creativity can go a long way. With these tips, you can use pieces in unusual ways that will make your tablescape unique.
• CANDLEHOLDERS. If you don’t have a set of votive holders handy, try using other items in their place. Shauna used vintage cordial glasses here; you could also try using teacups or miniature terra cotta pots.
• SERVING TRAYS. Dishes, and especially desserts, look gorgeous on the right serving tray. Mix things up by using a cake plate to show off cupcakes and brownies or a serving plate on top of a stack of vintage books to add height to a dessert bar.
• PLACE CARDS. You can use a variety of items for place cards, from simple tags tied around a napkin with twine to miniature pumpkins with guests’ names written on them. You can write their names on other items too, from dried autumn leaves to seashells to polished rocks.
